Transformative Governance of Food Loss and Waste in Southern Africa

Dr Dorothy Tembo is a research team member and serves as the Project Manager for Malawi. The current focus is on a project titled "Towards Transformative Governance of Food Loss and Waste in Southern Africa." The project, funded by The International Development Research Centre (CAD 521,500), IDRC, aims to provide valuable insights into the food loss and waste situation in Africa. The goal is to improve food systems in Southern Africa by reducing food waste and building resilience. To achieve this, the project team will identify research themes, narratives, knowledge gaps, methodologies, and processes that can be used to transform food systems governance. The findings are expected to promote better food management practices and improve the livelihoods of people in the region.

The project is being implemented in four countries: Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, and Namibia. The study areas will include four cities: Lusaka, Maputo, Windhoek, and Lilongwe. In Lilongwe, the research team is focusing on the peri-urban and rural food-producing regions. Each country has a team of researchers responsible for carrying out the research in the four cities.
